Message of the Faculty Management
Dear colleagues, dear students.
We are on the threshold of a new era, full of expectations about what it will bring. What will it be like? We are facing difficult but achievable goals. Like the world and Slovakia, our faculty is constantly transforming. In order to respond to new challenges, we must innovate our study programmes in line with developments in Slovakia and around the world.
For the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy, and Recycling, the main priorities have always been, and will continue to be, expertise, practical relevance, applicability, and fostering a family atmosphere. Our next priority is to spark the interest of young people and demonstrate to them the path forward in a modern world characterized by materials, digitalization, and green technologies. Last but not least, our own continued professional development is important, as it prepares us to respond to tomorrow's needs.
Although trends in the industry from previous periods remain relevant, the priorities for their deployment are changing. The implementation of advanced digital technologies is accelerating in pace. The same applies to scaling up smart solutions that have already been deployed.
We have a bold vision and strategy for the future development of our faculty. Together, we are exploring ways to modernize education and teaching for the 21st century. It is an incredible journey. Higher education plays a unique role in providing young people with the cutting-edge knowledge they need to solve tomorrow's problems.
Today, the faculty has a clear plan for developing new laboratories, which will strengthen our scientific research and cooperation with industry, as well as attracting new students. We are a faculty of materials experts, specializing in their creation, production, processing, use and recycling.
Our goal is to transform our faculty into the best in Slovakia.
- The best materials faculty in Slovakia.
- The only faculty specializing in modern metallurgy, metal processing and foundry engineering.
- A centre for the recycling of secondary raw materials in Slovakia,
- A faculty of applied chemistry.
Collaboration:
The faculty is open to the widest possible collaboration with TUKE faculties, universities in Košice, the Slovak Academy of Sciences and institutions within the European area, in the fields of education, science and research. We collaborate extensively with industry, providing our expertise, capacity for joint laboratories, and research and development projects to be implemented at both the faculty and the industrial partner's premises.
Education:
We are developing brand new study programmes that will offer students a straightforward, high-quality education at all three levels of university study. We are creating programmes of study in English that will also be offered to international students. As one of the few faculties in Slovakia, we will educate students in "big science" using synchrotron, neutron and FEL sources.
Science:
Our faculty conducts cutting-edge research in materials, processing technologies, modern metallurgy, recycling and applied chemistry. We don't just analyze foreign materials; we also produce new advanced materials in our laboratories and evaluate them using state-of-the-art analytical infrastructure. At the faculty, we create conditions for the work of new top scientists, leaders of scientific groups, and excellent teachers.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our hope that our faculty will continue to spread knowledge, educate future generations of bachelors, engineers, and doctoral students, and witness the formation of future generations of our descendants. The future is in our hands.
We want to take advantage of the opportunity that the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling at the Technical University of Košice can be the driving force behind our society. Education is the foundation on which we build our future, and when the knowledge and enthusiasm of FMMR teachers are combined with the modern thinking of our current and future students and the practical experience of hard-working students with the support of industrial partners, WE ARE TOGETHER ON THE BEST PATH FORWARD.
With regards
The management of the Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling, Technical University of Košice
